Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
