The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
