It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
